All of your stuff.

This is my new website, stephenbateman.com. So go there instead
I’m proud to announce that this blog has moved over to stephenbateman.com and will continue from there.
So yes, I hope you enjoy the blog, and I think I’m going to post a video announcing such events. Anyway we’ll see.
I saw this article on poverty in the Daily Gamecock by Paul Bowers, a second year student who writes for the paper. Below are a few highlights:
A close friend recently made a remarkable observation: As children, one of the first things we learn to fear is people. Before we shy away from the deep end of the swimming pool, and before we know better than to pick up wild animals from the ground, we know that guiding maxim: Don’t talk to strangers.
There is of course an element of self-preservation in this folk wisdom, but its tragic side effect is that, even as adults with developed faculties and an active sense of compassion, we are reluctant to help a stranger in need.
I see evidence of this nearly every time my classmates are approached by a homeless person. Here is the scene: A group of friends is walking down the sidewalk when a man wearing everything he owns enters their path and requests a little cash. The students’ response is to huddle closer and quicken their pace.
Later, they will offer rational explanations. “He was just going to spend it on drugs,” they’ll say, or “He was looking at my girlfriend funny.” But the truth is that they were afraid…
You can read the rest here, What do you think?
Everyone in the US realizes that we’re rich, but it’s fun once in a while to take a look at the numbers.
For example:
You should definitely check out www.GlobalRichList.com and play around with the numbers yourself, even if your a college student.
So it’s 12:48, and it’s about time to go to bed. But first, a quick blog post.
So I kinda stopped taking pictures, which means that blog posts become boring quickly. I think it’s because I keep forgetting to carry my camera around, and thus lose those “Kodak Moments.” Like
I think those are all the blog posts I never posted…so yes, I suppose you get the highlight version. the Gathering is tomorrow for Midtown! GROUP LINK!!!
At Maxcy, we take our hall government very seriously. Today and friday we’re voting for such prestigious positions as President (wowwww), Vice President, and Senator. For the past week our wild candidates have hit the campaign trail (otherwise known as the hallway) to convince their compatriots that they’re right for the job. As a result, the USC life blog is releasing certain endorsements to encourage you to vote for the “right” person.
President: I can’t endorse a presidential candidate, their advertising was so bad that I wasn’t even sure who was running. Truly embarrassing for someone running for the highest position in the hallway…
Vice President: Courtney Marsh invested her retirement in ink to post pictures for her campaign all over the dorm. We also received a slip of paper under our door explaining why she’s the right person to back up the president. So I voted for her…
Treasurer: Uhhh…I voted for Ryan Benitez because I *think* he’s on my hall, but I’m not really sure. The other choices just didn’t ring a bell…Regardless, what exactly are they treasuring?
Secretary: Now here’s an obvious choice, Christian (or Chris) Buckson. Why? even though you’ve never seen a campaign flyer from him, he’s going to be the best secretary our hall government could ask for. Vote for Christian Buckson ’08.
Senate: These are equally easy choices: Denise Burrow and Natalie Reeder. These two get the chance to represent us in front of the general congress (at least I think) and have inordinate amounts of influence (2/180 Maxcy vs. 2/600 Capstone or Patterson) So you want to make sure that they’re good choices.
So yes, go vote, and keep these recommendations in mind. hahahaha That’s the word from your resident political pundit.
So it was definitely time for a new video. Be sure to watch to the end, as it picks up.
Right now, I’m listening to Jazz. Specifically Miles Davis. Which just makes all of life that much better.
I did Laundry by myself for the first time in my life
It was a surreal experience, to have to go through and makes sure I didn’t put any laundry in the wrong spot. On friday we all went and did it together, which was good because if I’d been by myself, I would have pink T-shirts right now.
Switching gears, on sunday I went to Midtown at the 9pm service, and it was packed. Anyway Midtown is a church that meets close to campus. Let me know if you’re interested in going next sunday at like 5:30.
So I have a really sweet video update coming shortly. It’ll have “Raquetball Dodgeball” and a bunch of shenanigans related to getting tickets to the NC State game. Needless to say, the video is going to make you happy. Look for that by 11pm tonight!
PS. Shenanigans is in the dictionary! not sure why you need to know that, but it just might come in handy
